Revision and Creativity
Revision plays into my creative process in many ways. When I am in the open mode and being creative, I tend to throw around many ideas. Through out these ideas there may be some that are acceptable and some that may need to be rethought. Being creative is almost like brainstorming. A pool of ideas are brought together in one location and from there they are revised. The bad ideas are tossed and the better ideas are further expanded on. Revision allows you to pull out your best ideas and gets your mind off of the not so good ideas. In the end revision lets you capitalize on your most brilliant ideas.

That's a pretty great description of how revision should play into creativity. I think some people struggle because they enjoy being in the open mode so much, they don't want to have to move to the closed mode to really think about what's there. But, if you want your work to really shine, you have to do it.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you are saying completely. People become trapped in the open "creative mode" that they begin to loose track of the big picture or what is most important.
